Taken from the Harvard Study of Adult Development, Taken from the Harvard Study of Adult Development, the longest study on happiness, Happy-Well is a term to describe good physical health and good mental health that leads to high life satisfaction. While there are several uncontrollable factors that can affect happiness such as family of origin, there are 7 big predictors of being Happy-Well that we can control directly:

1. Smoking - don’t smoke. 🚭
2. Drinking - beware of alcohol abuse. 🍻
3. Healthy body weight - eat in moderation in a sustainable way. 🥗
4. Exercise - stay physically active. 🏋🏽
5. Adaptive coping style - confront problems directly. 🤝
6. Education - lifelong learning and lots of reading. 📚
7. Stable, long-term relationships - this is the single most important trait of being Happy-Well. 👫

What can you do today to make being Happy-Well a priority in your life? 🌈
“A creative life is an amplified life. It’s a “A creative life is an amplified life. It’s a bigger life, a happier life, an expanded life, and a hell of a lot more interesting life. Living in this manner - continuously and stubbornly bringing forth the jewels that are hidden within you - is a fine art.” - Elizabeth Gilbert
I’m really freaked out because I have so much sh I’m really freaked out because I have so much shit to do but still it has to get done so I talk myself into doing whatever must be done that day but first do Wordle and the Vulture crossword puzzle and drink matcha and take a shower and make calls and send emails and check things off my list then blow off the rest to help my daughter with her own freak out and quell my mounting anxiety by binge watching TV until 1 or 2 am then curse myself for staying up too late and not having good sleep habits because I know better but at least I get on my knees every morning and thank God for just being and ask Him to help me get through this day and even though I don’t feel like it will happen He does and I even manage to laugh and sing and do a happy dance with my daughter in the elevator because we always get boba after therapy and boba makes us happy. 🧋❤️👧🏽
Breathe weekend - a combo of science, spirituality Breathe weekend - a combo of science, spirituality, wellness and connection around family mental illness - expanded my mind, lifted me up, and broke my heart. It was validating to be around people who really understand this impossible life: the heartbreak, stress, instability, trauma and moral injury. For just a couple of days, I didn’t feel so alone, and I could really say “no, I’m not okay” and be heard.

Lectures, small groups, music, yoga, art, meditation, breath work, therapy, delicious food, prayer, s’mores, gifts and even a silent disco - it was a full weekend. But two events particularly affected me. There was a hut where we hung photos of our children - a stark reminder that these are not just stories, these are actual children. Every time I even peeked in the window, I cried💔. And the last event, right before saying goodbye, someone prayed our children’s names out loud as we released butterflies. Skye 🦋 Elijah 🦋

Thank you to the brave moms who shared their family’s stories. And thank you to @kaywarren75 for using her personal pain to be an advocate and voice for mental illness, to create a space for connection and hope. And for reminding me to…..breathe.
