What to wear to a business party?  This is always a dilemma – it’s business, but it’s also a party and honestly the two don’t go together.   And to make this business party extra stressful, it was a party for the mayor of Atlanta, Mayor Kasim Reed.  My husband asked people in the mayor’s office about attire and was told to wear a suit.   That was not helpful for me because 1. my business attire is pretty casual and 2. that sounds boring and I am not boring.  Also I was pretty sure that while the men would wear suits, the women would dress up a little bit – not party dresses per se, but more than they would wear to the office and most definitely the shoes would slay.  While the party started right after work hours, it was still Friday night.  And Atlanta.  And the mayor.

A sheath dress is a good bet for a business party, except sheath dresses are not my favorite and I would never wear it again.   I wanted something that was fun enough for a party, but still appropriate.  In my opinion jumpsuits usually fit this category very well and I found the perfect one.

These shoes gave me the height I needed for wide-legged pants, but the block heel allowed me to stand comfortably for hours.  Like every woman there (all wearing sheath dresses, by the way) my shoes slayed – but I was still able to walk the next day.

Best of all, I will most certainly wear this jumpsuit again.  In fact I just wore it to a vow renewal ceremony.  I was fairly certain that that ceremony guests would not be the same ones at the mayor’s party and I was right, except guess who conducted the ceremony?  Mayor Kasim Reed.  Doh!
