It’s amazing how many people made assumptions – both good and bad – about me just because I had dreadlocks. In the end I decided that however I looked without locs would be okay; I am not my hair.
Everyday that I shop and work and speak and travel and read and exist quite happily with this gorgeous head of hair, I defy the stereotype that I have to conform to a certain standard of beauty.
Is it naive to think that we can have color-blind casting and focus on the ability of the person to convey the character in a convincing way and not whether or not they “look the part”?
